Marine Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is a professional development program that prepares science teachers to use the latest biotechnology(1) and bioinformatics(2) techniques to investigate a local marine phenomenon, invasive mussels. During the 3-week summer workshop, you will generate novel DNA data and analyze it using bioinformatics software. You will also explore pedagogical strategies and develop standards-based lesson plans for engaging students in the same marine science research.
1 the use of living organisms or their products to make or modify a substance
or process
2 the use of computers to store, retrieve and analyze biological data
When is the workshop?
Spring Session is three Saturdays: May 3, 17, 31, 2008 plus
