Each year the program recruited new middle and high school teacher participants to attend the summer institute and the associated academic year sessions. During the program standards-based, science lessons were created by the teachers using cutting edge knowledge and skills acquired during the Marine Biotechnology and Bioinformatics year-long program. The lessons are found in a sortable matrix.
The teachers brought their lessons to student participants at the institute and/or to their own classrooms. They assessed the lessons and the implementation and presentated their results at a culminating Showcase Event at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Teachers were provided with templates for their presentations. The 2006-07 cohort presented a poster of the lesson plans developed in the program. The 2007-08 and 2008-09 cohorts created PowerPoint presentations of their lesson plans. The Showcase served a twofold purpose: to celebrate the accomplishments of the program participants and to create an opportunity for teacher-participants to practice their skills at creating a conference style poster or slideshow for public presentation.
During 2008-09, student participants created group presentations using the knowledge and skills acquired during their one-week attendance of the institute.
