Marine Science |
| These materials introduce the marine science question and the techniques used to address the question. Supplemental materials contain more information on the study organism (the Bay mussel) and marine invaders in general. Published papers provide background. Detailed instructions support going into the field, collecting and dissecting specimens. | |

Molecular Biology and Genetics |
| In order to understand how and why the biotechnology and bioinformatics techniques are used to address the science question, MBB presents these molecular biology and genetics materials. These resources can also be used to supplement grade-level materials in the high school biology classroom, or as review materials for AP Biology. | |

Biotechnology |
| The MBB program focuses on biotechnology techniques that allow for the manipulation and analysis of DNA information from closely related species and goes beyond basic techniques to generate novel DNA data and address a scientific question. Each activity is introduced in the Background Presentation and step-by-step instructions are in the Lab Exercise. | |

Bioinformatics |
| These bioinformatic lessons are based on the same tools and databases that practicing scientists use for their work. These computer-based techniques are required to analyze the DNA data generated in the Biotechnology section and complete the study of the mussel invasion. | |

Educational Technology |
The MBB program was designed using educational technology practices and included materials on educational technology tools. Instructional strategies target the rapid integration of new knowledge and best practices for transforming high-level, new science knowledge into lesson plans for students. |

STEM Careers |
| As a sponsored project of the NSF-ITEST program, MBB responded to concerns about the growing demand for STEM workers in the US. MBB provided examples for teachers on how to present STEM career info in their curriculum, and led workshop sessions for high school students during the summer institute as a demonstration model. | |
