Scientific Findings

During the NSF-funded years of this program (2004-2009) the staff designed a series experiments that addressed a scientific hypothesis: As a non-native marine mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) spreads northward along the California coast it hybridizes with AND displaces the native marine mussel (Mytilus trossulus). Each summer mussels were collected in Moss Landing, CA, and analyzed by program staff and teacher participants in a professional development workshop. The background information and techniques used are found under the Program heading. The results from all of the data are summarized in a Scientific Findings Presentation.
